:| Well, I know that Mcromedia's Director (which produces Shockwave movies) can rip .GIF 89a animations and synchronize to sound (by inserting events in to the soundtrack), but it's quite expensive (around $800 US I believe.) On top of that it's not very easy to learn for small projects.

Actually, the real problem, Chuck, is that you're trying to synchronize audio to video, which is incredibly difficult no matter what you do. Most people, if the soundtrack allows it, synchronize the video(animation) to the sound. Much easier.

Other thoughts. If your animations are mostly solid colored, you can use RLE compression (which is based on LZW just like GIF is.) It can be ripped by almost any program and take less space than uncompressed video. The problem is it has the same 256 color pallette limitation that GIF has.

Chuck:

Do yourself a flavor, and go with Adobe ImageReady. It's integrated with Photoshop 5 and 6.

If you know anything about photoshop and it's layer system, than you'll feel at home with ImageReady. You can also jump back and forth between both programs by hitting the appropriate icon in your toolbar.

To add sounds etc, you can just import that gif into Flash. Flash isn't as intensive as Director, and would be much more easy to adapt to what you need it for. When flash imports a Gif file, it will extract each frame, at which point, you can create a flash movie clip from it and use it as one of your actors on stage. Macromedia has excellent tutorials, I recommend taking a look into Flash first.

Last modification: 999 - 05/27/01 at 13:34:20

well i picked up Adobe Priemere and sure it'll sync sound but its not really what i was after, its more for DV editing. O well, i'll sell it to my friend with A dv camera. And since i'm making all the sound effects myself i figure i can make them to fit, watch the vid and as i do make the voiceovers and shit. Then i'll just link it up, also the sound doesn't need to be perfect, they have bobbling heads there is no real lip sync to worry over.
