Now here's a game that should be ported!

Postby Datalore » Jun 16, 2003 @ 6:42pm

I think that Mike Wiering's Mario clone would be cool to have on PocketPC. I love that game. Hey, the source is available, sadly though its in Turbo Pascal. And I don't know how to work those Pascal-to-C converters. Anybody know of a pascal compiler for PocketPC?

Dave Johnston had a pretty nice side-scroller engine demo, using the SMB4 graphics.

That sounds interesting... is it for PC or PPC?

Wait, SMB4 = Super Mario Brothers 4, right? Then that must mean Super Mario World. My favorite game ever. Unless you meant SMB3. I would immediately buy a decent side-scroller specifically designed for PocketPC. Anything except Quigleys Quest. Can't stand that game. Does anybody know of any side-scrollers for PPC?

Yea, it was World. I forget the name of it, check it out though, or perhaps he'd like to tell us about it. I assume his duties with Counterstrike stop him from completing it all the way, but I'm just making stuff up.

(BTW, from the looks of it, a port of that Mario thing looks unlikely, all sorts of display tricks, and other things that make porting a pain seem to be present)

Sonic the Hedgehog. I tried Rayman once, but the controls were not to my liking. IIRC, you had to tap the screen to punch and jump, which didn't work out with me.
Sponge- I looked at the code too... He uses weird sprites and his own editor. I'm not going to get my hopes up for a port.
Here's Dave Johnston's PocketPC part of his website:

Click under projects and you can see the screenshots for Mario. Looks like it has potential. Did Dave ever release a demo/source? I cannot find it on the site.

No, not sonic, I love sonic. This is a little yellow star dude, darn it, I had him for the Game Gear... He reminded me of Mega Man for some reason. Oh well, suffice it, Rayman Ultimate is a great platformer for the PPC.

STEPS TO GET DOS WITH XP

1) Create 3 harddrive partitions, one with windows on it.
2) Install Linux on one partition.
3) Make sure the computer uses LILO bootloader
4) Install DOS on the last free partition.
5) Delete Linux (if you want to) and repartion its HD space back into the windows HD.

Wallah.

[fine, be THAT specific. I meant on an XP computer- as the Windows Boot Manager wont let you boot to DOS]
