I learned from Asus technical support that the A716 is not compatible with many bluetooth headsets. The one's tested by Asus and found to be compatible are these:

1.Nokia - HDW-2
2.SonyEricsson - HBH-60
3.Motorola - 98405H
4.Celllink - BTHS-6023
5.Hello2
6.SmartHome

Yes, I saw the review of the A730 which mentioned the bluetooth problem with the Bluetrek G2 and Logitech headsets. Those happen to be the two I have and they do not work on the A716, though I know the Bluetrek G2 does work on the A620BT, as I sent it to Asus tech support and it tested OK on the A620 but not the A716. Why Asus can't make their bluetooth headset protocol more generally compatible on the A716 and A730, though they apparently did so on the A620, beats me.

The patch posted on the Asus website does resolve the problem with bluetooth headsets not working. After months of frustration I am now able to use my Logitech bluetooth headset to listen to sound files on my A716. But I'm not quite 100% satisfied, as there are momentary skips during playback, a phenomena which does not happen when using the A716's speaker or the wired headset output. I will try using a different bluetooth headset later on and report back. But it is a giant relief to have this feature finally work.
