On the subject of the Intel vs the Nvidia chip I'd also like to point out the fact that the Intel chip has some nice video acceleration features which I haven't heard the slightest mention of in the Nvidia chip except "VHS-quality video capture and playback [with the MPEG-4 and H.263 Codec]". Also does anyone know of the advantages of 1280KB of embedded memory over 704KB? I'd assume it would only make much of a difference with external displays?

“They have a significant advantage over both ATI and especially Intel/PVR in this regard.”

I don’t see how PowerVR have lots of developer support and there hardware runs about 3 to 4 times faster then Nvidia can. It takes a 75mhz Nvidia card to keep up with a 25mhz PowerVR card and that’s not going change any time soon. Start adding in FSAA and bandwidth and it looks better for PowerVR.

Nvidia are not suited for handhold device’s.

The Dell X50 is also using the lightest/weakest version of the MBX with the least features. MBX seem to be doing the best with the most licenses though only 1 is on the market.

”the X50V is dog slow, benchmarks put it at about 20% of the X30H in graphics tests.”

I assume you are mostly talking about SPB Software Benchmark? If you looked at the detailed test you would have noticed the X50 is over 2.5x faster.

X50 gets 260.8 fps in DDB
A730 gets 139.9 in DDB

X50 gets 22.94 fps in DIB
A730 gets 8.442 in DIB

Detail scores show that X50 is 2.72 times faster in DIB mode and in DDB it’s 1.86 times faster yet according to total score the A730 is 50% faster.
The problem is when using the legacy GAPI mode which is not using the X50 hardware acceleration. Its not surpriseing the X50 loser’s when you don’t use its hardware acceleration. That’s a bit like comparing two PC’s one has software rendering and the other has a Geforce 6800 but you don’t use it so the first PC looks faster.

Also 3Dmark the people who made SPB has always been bios against PowerVR anyway, its not like its a fair benchmark. Just look at what they did in the past.

“Emulators are super slow on it, and existing 2D Games run about as good as a 400 Mhz first gen XScale chip.”
That’s because they are using an old legacy GAPI that does not use the X50 hardware acceleration. If the emulator’s get updated to use hardware they would be a good 2 to 3 times faster then a A730. Sooner or later someone will write a new GAPI implementation that use's the X50 hardware giveing it a massive speed boost even with the old Emulators.

There are already games made for the X50 that just cannot run on a A730 or other PDA’s at anything but a slide show. Yet you called the X50 dog slow compared to the A730. Yes the X50 is slow when useing softwere thats why it has a hardwere card. Sooner or later all PDA's will have hardwere cards. Just like the PC more and more programs will use hardwere over softwere.

Games like the Quake port if updated to run on the X50 hardware could look a good 5x better and run faster. You could up the detail and turn on FSAA which makes everything more clear and still get a speed boost over other PDA’s.

“Intel should have made a chip that works now, not a year down the road when we actually have 3D games being developed.”
We have 3D games now that you can buy. Not only does it come with 3 games but developer are selling games made for it. No one has to wait a year.

If you want to use 3D programs that have not been updated then the X50 is not for you. If you want to get the best speed with new games then the X50 is the best PDA.
