nope, no sarcasm listen to this
gerard:
"Um, 'cause I really hate my PC? Sorry, but it didn't occur to me. I have WinRAR, Winzip, and some other thing in there, but rarely bother, as the zippers I have in here are usually great.
Now that you mention it though, I don't think I'll risk that. My laptop is an imbalanced thing, and if it started filling up the hard drive with some bogus quake.exe file, I'm not at all certain I could stop it. Today my girlfriend booted up, started writing an email, had to go out, and put it in Standby. When she woke it up, it wouldn't do anything. Dead. So I gave up after a few minutes of useless gestures with touchpad and buttons, and powered down. On rebood, with the usual MS warning about how to avoid this screen... (I really hate that absurd message) ... it worked again. Wow, gee, I can try to use it and hope it doesn't crash! No thanks. Only if I really want to do something the Casio can't yet do, like make an ebook, or encode a movie. Some day, these too may come..."

"as I do 95%+ of my computer chores - on the Casio, solo. Downloaded the wad-type thing and all with the Casio, as it gets dls done way faster somehow. The PC is handy, a sort of Pocket PC accessory, I don't deny that. But my laptop probably has defective hardware. It reboots spontaneously, despite a really clean rebuild last month by a talented friend who has been in system maintenance for 25+ years, and getting it replaced by Acer in November. And it's the biggest, ugliest PPC add-on, at 6.9 pounds, with a pathetic battery life of 3 hours, and a noisy fan and hard drive. My 6Gb Accurite whispers, and weighs only a pound.
Give me a few more MIPS apps - a video encoder, a port of WinRAR, a version of Readerworks - and a way to run my LaCie USB CD-RW and Xerox USB printer from here, and that big ugly thing goes to the gf in a flash. My guess is another year is all I'll have to wait for most of that."

But I know about the defective crap units he's gone thorugh, that says nothing about the OS's stability.

<cringe>-waiting for the repartee-
