Nicole, go with the PC Card sleeve. You can buy adaptors to plug in so you have CF card capabilities as well.

But you seem like use the Targus keyboard more, if you were looking for a laptop before. So that would be my first choice in your situation.

If you get a Nokia 8290 or 8260 like 999 said, you won't need a modem for you iPaq because you can connect through the IR port on the cell to surf. Just make sure you've got plenty of cheap minutes.

If you get the PC Card Type III adaptor, then you've got two PC Card ports, one of which you can use with a 2GB Kingston PCMCIA hard drive (That uses half the battery of a microdrive) and your wireless network card in the other.

So many choices, so little money. I've got a Casio so I don't have a single on of those choices. (Great, I've turned it into a war).Last modification: Moose Master - 06/15/01 at 07:03:08

Hi Nicole,
Just to point something that you should consider is that while a PC sleeve is cool and PCMCIA HDs are up to 2 gigs, it will make your PPC bigger and havier. And I mean, a lot bigger and heavier than a normal iPAQ. imho. :)

Last modification: Diego Cueva - 06/15/01 at 08:02:55

Yeah..Id like to get the PC sleeve but right now I 'm pretty tapped out so if I get anything right now it will be the CF sleeve/CF memory/maybe the keyboard.
Has anyone found and used a generic power adapter for the ipaq? I do need to get one of those too so I can charge at work. I was gunna get a sync cable but I just remembered I had a work laptop (not mine) and it had Ir on it so I can sync that way.
If I had all the money in the world to deal with Id get the dual PC sleeve, toshiba PC drive (1.2 gig) and a modem, keyobard, ..uhm anything and everything at mobileplanet.com that works on the iPaq...heh

The iPaq supply is 5V 2A, so it should be easy to find a 3rd party model, assuming the connector isn't proprietary. It looks standard to me. You can also get a USB charging cable that will charge your iPaq off of your PC / Laptop while it's connected.

Dan East

Don't forget, the iPAQ has an internal voltage regulating diode. So, as long as you're in that general voltage margin, you should be safe.

I've been using 4 AA's as a battery extender (without any diode) for over a year now, and my iPAQ still works fine. 1.5 x 4 = 6volts.

Ack!
iPaq=money pit.
I just got paid today, ran down to CompNazi err USA picked up a CF sleeve and 64 meg CF memory to start with. I seriously need a better case for it though, with the sleeve on the leather "case" that came with the Ipaq, wont fit the CF sleeve and the PPC.
