Good FPS?

As i stated in a comment posted on PocketGamer, all screenshots were taken straight from a StrongARM PPC (Ipaq 3870). Of course, it might not have been too easy to spot such posts/comments when there's a full-scale Mips vs Arm war in progress. Oh well.

And in case u havent seen a screenshot yet, here it is again:

[Edit] Wrote Ipaq 3970 when i meant 3870....

*cough* MIPS support? ;)

I said this already, but the game does look really nice. I still have no clue how that's going to end up running on a 206mhz device though :P What features would you expect to reccomend disabling for playable speeds on a normal iPaq? (since from what I understand an iPaq 3900, XScale, is being used)

Since one thread is all to flames, maybe convert this one into something productive ;)

Sorry about that, accidentally typed 3970 instead of 3870 - 6hrs of sleep in 3 days is starting to catch up with me... :(

GW has ONLY been tested/developed on StrongARM devices to date. The game is targetted primarily at current 206mhz devices and will run 100% full speed.
I'm not even sure where this whole Xscale screenshot/optimised build idea came from, but such a thing does not yet exist. (But i'm sure my accidental typo didn't help matters)

Hope that makes it a little clearer :)

Ah a lot clearer. Was wonderin where you had that device from :P

Well, if you manage to pull this off, you have my infinite respect. This thing must be in 100% ARM ASM :P

Good luck again, I could use some sleep myself..

I posted this in the PocketGamer thread, but since no one's really reading that seriously now, I'll just ask it here...

Is there going to be multiplayer support? I'd love to have some fun kicking my friends' asses at deathmatch while at school :)

Whoops, forgot to answer it properly! Well, if you're still interested...

Yes, there will be multiplayer support in GW. However, it'll be unlikely to make it into the first release. While I know that might be a little disappointing for some, there are several reasons for this:

Firstly, I don't believe in just tacking on some rushed multiplayer game option just for the hell of it. In my opinion, a decent multiplayer FPS game for PPC would almost be a seperate project in itself. Unlike something like, say, a racing game where the cpu-controlled cars are essentially just replaced with human players, an FPS benefits hugely from maps, skins, etc designed specifically for deathmatch, which take into account issues like lag, flow of gameplay, different game modes (ctf, etc). Support for 'bots' would also be included.

Ideally, I'd also wish to support differing connection methods inlcuding WLAN, Bluetooth, GPRS, etc and writing decent networking code to support the different methods would also help delay GW's release if multiplayer was included in the initial release. I'll also be receiving a Sendo Z100 before the end of the month, so I'll be looking at adding support for smartphone devices. In addition to this, we've been approached by a company specialising in 'connected' services so things could get very interesting... ;) Basically, a multiplayer-enabled GW would delay the release indefinitely, although adding much. In fact, it could even turn into a 'GW Arena' add-on update, allowing players to stick to SP-only or DM-only games if they so wished, thus saving storage, etc. HOWEVER the priority at the current time is to focus on delivering an immersive, playable FPS single-player experience i.e catering for the majority of PPC users. Multiplayer will follow soon after, i promise...

(Told you it wasn't a one-word answer... :) )
