One thing: "Chrono Trigger"

I've been emulating several systems on my iPaq 3835 (Atari 800, GameBoy Color, Nintendo NES). These work OK with overclocking. I've also been watching Anime movies and listening to mp3's. All is well on this PDA.

But good SNES emulation with full sound has always been out of reach with the current PPC's until now. With this ASUS PPC, I will finally be able to play my favorite 16-bit RPG on a truely portable system (try sticking a laptop in your pocket!).

One thing: "Chrono Trigger"
Konya wa Hurricane, Baby!

I'd like to use "MY NEW PDA" to compare with my old iPAQ4150 and to show its advantages to our spanish friends of www.pcdemano.com

Thanks

I don't think I could ever take advantage of all the features, but my husband could, and that's who I'd be giving it to...so he'd quit stealing my Axim to use :)

Not only could he use it for work (he works at a local hospital in administration) but his job is now requiring him to travel and this is something he could utilize during those long plane trips, mandantory meetings and boring conventions. Also, it'd be nice for him to have some games/dvds/music to relax with after meetings!

And besides, his birthday is coming up in a few months, and I can *never* sneak anything past him!

I would use the A716 the same way I use my Axim, which I would give to my mother.

Work:
I would track my PC install project(s) in an Excel spreadsheet, jotting down serial numbers, user names, ip addresses, etc. I would read the documentation for those complicated software installs with too many steps for my poor brain to remember. I would use TextMaker for tracking mileage as I drive from site to site providing support for the medical center that employs me. Our forms for requesting time off are in Word, so I'd again employ TM to ask for that vacation or to document when I was out sick. I would keep track of my co-workers' pager numbers, office numbers and radio PINs, so that I could readily coordinate my efforts with, say, a server admin or a network tech. When in range of my home or office wireless, I'd sync directly with our Exchange server, picking up and reading/responding to the latest email and making sure I won't forget my appointments. I'd hop on MSN Messenger and ask my supervisor a question. I'd connect to my PC through Terminal Services and look up the information on a Help Desk call, as we don't have the mobile version of our database.

Play:
I would also make sure that my friends' phone numbers and email addresses were no further than the case on my hip. Using AvantGo, I'd make sure that I would have the showtimes for the movies at our favorite theater just a few clicks away. Before we hit the movie, we'd have dinner at a restaurant, and I'd open up my Bartender Pro and ask the waiter or waitress to bring me <insert drink of choice here>, showing him/her the recipe on my Asus, if he/she thinks the Bartender might not be familiar with it. I'd read eBooks, some classics from the Gutenberg site, maybe, or from the Baen free library. When driving, I'd connect my iRock to my Asus and listen to my MP3's playing on my car's FM Radio. I'd play Warfare, Incorporated, Monopoly, Backgammon, Championship Gin, ShadowGate Classic, and a whole lot of other games, installing many of them on my SD card. I'd stream music to my Axim with GSPlayer and Shoutcast. I'd browse the web, use PPCNewz to read the latest info on my favorite newsgroup (the TabletPC group), and read HandStory content and RSS feeds from PDA Forums, because I am a forum junkie. I'd make my friend, who made me drool with his 1st generation iPAQ, so jealous that he'd go right out and buy an A716 for himself.

There are a few things I would do, that I don't already do with my Axim:

I'd install programs and save important documents on my CF card, because I would no longer have to pop it out to use the wireless. I would buy and use that IR remote control software, which is almost useless on my Axim.

Whew! It might have been better to ask what I wouldn't do!
Yes, I have a TabletPC obsession. No, I am not very ashamed of that. Many people have worse obsessions, and many people will do illegal things for their obsessions. I just do stupid stuff for mine, so I'm ok. Won't you please give me a TabletPC?

The battery life seems great compared to my IPAQ and the screen looks amazing. With the overclocking this would prolly be nice to play SNES games. Can't wait to hear more about it!

No-Budget Amateur Digital Filmmaker Hungers for A716

Postby Guest » Feb 22, 2004 @ 10:25am

As an aspiring student filmmaker who is working on a few short films, I've monitored these cool forums to find a powerful, full-featured PDA that will help me organize my little productions and my life. Now I've found it.

The A716 will put my scripts and storyboards in my pocket and at my fingertips, saving me from the ordeal of managing disorganized reams of paper while shooting. Scripts can be edited in Word on the go, shared with friends, and even beamed via the built-in Bluetooth to my printer (once I get a Bluetooth printer module). Storyboards can be created in an image editor, to be annotated and viewed in an album, or managed using cool pocket storyboard software like Ginger, from developer Engine16 (site currently being renovated). They also make pocket software for organizing film continuity, casts, crews, effects, and more. Additionally, I can use the built-in Wi-Fi to instantly e-mail scripts and storyboards to my friends and film studies teacher for advice (I have a home Wi-Fi internet network). And I can quickly instant message my actors about what costumes or props to bring for the day's shooting.

As I edit my films on my home computer, I can compress rough cuts for sharing with my film studies instructor and classmates at school, right on the A716, thanks to its astounding 19-hour battery life, fantastic video framerate, large SDRAM capacity, clear speaker, and nice new display. This will be far preferable to printing the video to mini-DV tapes from my home computer, then lugging my mini-DV camcorder to school.

My computer, which is in my room and on which I edit everything from videos to scripts to homework, has a hard drive of only 40 gigabytes. If you know how much space video footage takes up, you know that drive will soon be full. However, with all my scripts and homework edited and stored on the A716 (using mobile Word and Excel), my home computer can be dedicated to video editing in storage and speed. Also, my computer has no floppy drive, and I don't have a printer in my room. Therefore, when I want to bring any documents to school to work on, I currently have to send them from my computer to a slower one elsewhere in the house, where they can be printed or saved to a floppy. The A716 will let me work on those documents at home or at school with no hassles.

And of course good old Windows Mobile 2003 will allow me to arrange my schedule for filming and for everything else, the fast Intel 400MHz processor and phenomenal battery life supporting all these tasks all day long.

Unfortunately, my current mini-DV camcorder is proving inadequate, its lack of a microphone input jack and poor focus resulting in actor's lines being drowned out by background noise, and shots losing focus. I need to devote most, if not all, of my very small budget to a new camcorder (and probably an external microphone), and I don't think I can afford this fantastic PDA. My films, such as my recent short documentary about LAN parties, would be vastly improved by the organizational and multimedia features of the A716. Only if I win this contest will my lust for portable convenience (and big round silvery modernist sci-fi buttons) be satisfied.
