Postby Dihnekis » Mar 7, 2003 @ 4:15am

hey its your project, dont listen to me. I just type things without thinking, and i was thinking(wait that doesnt make sense does it...) about how cool it would be to play diablo on a ppc.
Careful, don't get crushed under the weight of my stupidity... the think hurts

Say you're walking around a room like this. What is easier..for game controls (note still on topic)?
Would you be primarily a stylus user to walk around, or would you use your left thumb to D-pad around?

Definitely both, but if I had to choose one I'd choose the d-pad.

A DPad would be a much more familiar control, and the game does not necessitate landscape, so I'd try to stick with portrait unless landscape really adds to the game, such as is the case with PocketQuake and Snails.

Yeah that is another question as well. Landscape or Portrait. I picked Landscape, but that doesn't mean its the best choice. I just figured b/c it would mean more visible and the screen just looks a bit normal that way. Then again, I could always have it display the same amount of map except it would be portrait. Less visible horizontally, but more visible vertically. What do you guys think?

I would prefer portrait, as it's just easier to hold, and it's LEFT HANDED FRIENDLY. Except if you have scrollbars on the right side of the screen *twitch*
holy internets batman.

Yeah, I'm lefthanded and I don't like using the D-Pad with my left thumb [edit: only in landscape... in portrait obviously that's how I use the dpad], especially when it's a crappy Axim D-pad. Of course, there are situations where the d-pad is useful too. But to elaborate, I guess I'd prefer the stylus, if only for the sake of disagreeing with moose.

Does this look better?
In map mode, I can support either orientation without change. But in other modes not yet created (combat, status/menus), this may not necessarily be possible just yet.

Yeah, looks just as good in portrait. Controls should be better too.

Heh, I've made my editing time very quick ever since I got ridiculed over and over for a dumb mistake like that one on another board.

Here is a Diablo clo.. err wait, Diablo was a Rogue clone and this is a Rogue clone!

I recently went thru some testing on interface along those lines. There are two things I needed though which haven't been mentioned, moving you all got, but I needed to scroll the map around too. So stylus clicks move the map, and dpad moves. I'd like to also get the mini buttons in the mix for diagonal movement.

In case you can't tell, the ASCII text are actually tiles .
