My dad got a 386 like in 1990 or maybe before. I was 5 then. We had DOS on it and my dad and I would play like SuperSolvers Midnight something (it was in the same line as Treasure MathStorm and stuff) from the Learning Company, or something. It was a bonding experience ;). We got Windows 3.x on it, too. That 386 was really high-end and expensive then. I think we had an AMD FPU math coprocessor (the 387) for it, too. I think we still have it at my dad's work somewhere...

Back then, I totally loved the Paint program... *sigh*... I miss those days of simple pleasures... :)

Did you know that you can install Windows 95 on 386s? And you can install Windows 98 on 486s?

Yeah, but I meant that 486s are actually SUPPORTED for Win98.

Desktop 1 (800MHz P3): Windows .NET beta.
Desktop 2 (1GHz Celeron): Windows ME (damn stable oddly enough)
Server (Compaq Deskpro 200MHz): FreeBSD (stable? you bet)
386 (was put out of use this christmas and replaced by the server): Windows 3.11 for workgroups and DOS.

My first comp was a 386 that broke the same day we got it ;)

.net, dare I say, looks pretty cool. Seems MS has some sort of naming fetish.. add either .net, direct, or professional for it. I'd go hunting for it, if I had somewhere to put it. I'm not trusting it with my p4 1.6ghz, and I don't think preformance will be great with my P233 w/ 64mb of RAM here :P

Direct.net Professional Edition coming soon to a store near you.. no one knows what it does quite yet, but it will revolutionize computing!

Heh heh. You guys are talking about 386's and 486's being old? I have a 286 with a monochrome monitor in my bedroom closet right now. I'm keeping it as an antique, so when I'm 68 in the year 2050, I will be rich! Lol! Actually I keep it just because there are not many around anymore, and it's fun to play with. The monitor is really cool, I can change it to solid green monochrome, solid orange monochrome, solid blue monochrome, or solid grey monochrome. I put an old 20MB Maxtor HD in it, and I installed Dos 6.0 and Windows 3.1 on it! Windows 3.1 is slow as hell, but it's still cool. :)

Also, have you guys ever noticed how hot those old 286's get? In the winter if my bedroom is cold, I just turn that thing on for a half hour to an hour and my bedroom is hot! :)
