The GFFX is somewhat misunderstood.
Using the NV30 path, the GFFX is unstoppable. However, when using the ARB2 path, which I believe is common in most games, you get HALF the speed vs the NV30 path. THIS is how the R300 core is faster than NV30 - the ARB2 path preformance.
Compare the R300 core using the R300 path, and the NV30 core to the NV30 path, and NV30 will be the clear winner. Supposedly performance using an ARB2 path can be improved in the future. If I recall correctly, the NV30 is preforming calculations in 32bit, while the R300 in 24bit. This extra accuracy causes some of the speed decreases you see in the GFFX
In summary: If your running a game optimized for the GFFX, it will kick ass.
I encourage you all to correct me, as I'm sure there are a couple things wrong with my statements.
