Wow! The thread looked like I haven't posted for a week. :) Anyway, please read my post below, I gave several comments and additional suggestions to make it easier for everyone. :)
I hope you guys won't mind if I just put in my comments here so everyone will know.
Believe me, I really loved all your artworks, but just don't have enough room for everyone's. So here goes:
1. BurningSheep's (or should I call it Robert's Records) is in. The artwork fits the game art style perfectly and a record bar is something we forgot (yes we admit) to include in our tower so we'll take it in.
2. We realized that we have too many food units already so Moose's (are you the same with James Sonne?) Taco House is the last one we're going to accept. :) I just did a few revisions on your artwork because it kinda looked like it was taken from the "gadgets" shop I showed a while back. ;) But anyway, we loved the taco sign, the table with the Virts, I just edited a few stuff and here it is. If you're ok with the additional artwork that I put in, it will be included in Tower Mogul. This is still your idea right? So we need your permission before it gets in.
3. 10inchassassin's computer store is something we haven't done yet. Yes we are planning to include one but we haven't worked on it yet so I reckon we can just start with what he has submitted. Here's an edited version of your computer store but I'm still not convinced with the "closed" frame so do you think you can improve on it? I also edited the other frames so it would have more "content" and added a few more Virts because its a large unit anyway. If you can improve on the last frame, send it to me for approval and we'll pack it in too. :)
4. Kyle Temkin's slots is also in our plans. But we are planning to do a casino, not just a slot machine shop. :) I'll tell you what, would you be interested to "expand" your artwork into a 6x2 cell unit? Yours right now is just a 4x1 cell unit and we need a 6x2 casino. If you are up for it, I'll give you the freedom to integrate some more ideas to your slots unit and turn it into a casino. As for the artwork style, its perfectly fit for the game, keep up the nice work. What do you think?
5. Techmage's bookstore looks cool and fits well with our artwork style too. We already have a bookstore but will take your idea in consideration. :) Nice work too! I do hope you'll be interested to do more units. Sponge is right, you don't need extra-special paint software to do this kind of style, a simple MS Paint bundled with a creative mind will do. :)
6. Sponge: although you haven't submitted anything, we really appreciate your web dev offer and if you're still up for it, drop me an email too. We already have a working template for Tower Mogul's website, we just lack time and manpower to do it considering we're exerting all our efforts to making the game cool and polished. This will really help us get the game out the soonest time.
Overall, here are some more tips for you guys:
1. Don't use too much dark colors, unless it IS needed. It makes your unit artwork clean and clear.
2. Pure black (RGB - 0, 0, 0) is transparent in the game. So if you want to use black, use something like (RGB - 19, 19, 19), it still looks black but isn't pure black.
3. Conform to the unit measurement specs. A cell is 15x20 pixels. From what I recall, some artworks have overshoot by 1 or 2 pixels in width.
4. 2-floor units does not really have to have stairs or escalators in them, that is already assumed. :) There are separate "transits" that you can place anywhere in your building to make a certain unit accessible by the Virts. (Transit is what we call stairs, escalators and elevators by the way) Below is a sample of a 2-floor unit that will be included in the game. Its our own version of an Arcade. :)
And lastly, someone asked for a list of units that we still need with their corresponding cell sizes so here they are.
Petshop (3x1)
Supermarket (5x1)
Toy Palace (4x2)
Beauty Parlor (2x1)
Laundromat (3x1)
Spa & Gym (4x2)
Kiddie Playland (3x2)
Function Rooms (4x2)
Trade Hall (4x2)
Computer Store (6x1) - 10inchassassin's if he's up for it
Casino (6x2) - Kyle's if he's up for it
Graduate School (6x2)
I can't believe that you guys are very much interested in submitting artworks to us. We really appreciate your submissions and we'll do all that we can to get everyone's artwork in without sacrificing the high-quality image that we've put in the game for the past few months.
Here're a few suggestions so everyone will be happy:
1. I gave a list above, I want everyone to post what their going to make FIRST before actually starting so we we'll have assignments for everyone, what do you guys think?
2. Since you guys have been regular posters here at this thread, I'm gonna be including you automatically in our beta list. :) Drop me an email at
erick@esoftinteractive.com and send me your name, games that you've played and beta-tested before, your pocket pc specs plus other accessories you have (like storage cards) which you will be using for playing the game.
3. If you're artwork submission has been accepted or used in Tower Mogul, you automatically get a full version as prize when the final release version comes out and you will be credited accordingly in the game's website.
So there you go, sorry for the very long post but I know it will help us all a lot. Thank you very much to everyone who has shown interest. An announcement for Tower Mogul and a few more "final" screenshots will be released sometime next week. I will still stick to our original deadline which is August 21, 2003 for the artwork submission. :)
Regards,
Erick :)
