There is no VCD that supports 5.1. There is no VCD codec. VCD is a standard that describes the video and audio compression, bitrate and resolution. XVCD is a term for a non-standard VCD still using mpeg1 but allowing higher resolution and bitrates. SVCD also a standard allows for mpeg2 video. I believe the later SVCD standard allows for 5.1 audio.

I don't make such general distinctions between VCD and SVCD. They're "the same" in my mind. I know their differences and why one is better so you don't have to go into some diatribe about it, but when I say VCD I mean any format of Video CD.
