Any common WINS, or doesn't that matter. I'm a networking n00b, :-P. Luckily our school's system doesn't block out DOS and such, which is how a couple of my friends have hacked into our student passwords and grades, etc. The problem with trying to simply veiw the values I need is that the network is not hooked up to any computers that I have access to. Thanks again for the other info. I'll play with it a bit tomorrow.

My school uses a proprietary Cisco LEAP protocol on the WiFi. So, since my e740 doesn't have a Cisco card, it won't work. I can access it and get a wireless signal and ip address, I just can't connect.

I agree that ipconfig or winipcfg is the way to go.

mine is weird in that it assigns me a 169 IP. I still cant get it to work atschool, even with the proxy. At my friends house it worked and i was getting an IP of 10.10.10.0 or something like that. That was after i turned off the router, then turned it back on. I am going to try to turn off one of the school's aiports, and turn it back on. The school uses macs, so does anyone know a command that will get me the info on a mac?

Mac OS X = Unix, so all Unix commands apply. Do a bit of research if you want to know how.

As for Mac OS 9 and below, I haven't a clue.

I will try to access our schools network tomorrow, the SSID is linksys, and it is only too probable that the default linksys admin password still works. haha! I will be back on MSN Messenger if it works, and there is nothing they can do about it, since i'll be mobile. MOBILE!!!
