So I'm sure you've all heard about the new SNES emulator that the creator of PocketNester is working on. Does anybody know what the status of that project is or where I can find information about it?

Probably a port, but as far as I know he hasn't started yet.

It's pretty hard to write a fast and compatible SNES emulator from scratch.
