What is up with Sega?

What is up with Sega?

Postby Datalore » May 11, 2003 @ 2:03am

Has anybody seen what they've done? Sega released Sonic the Hedgehog for Palm, but not for PocketPC. Does this make sense to anybody at all? Sonic is best suited for PocketPC with the colors and such. I mean, all you need is a direction pad and one button. How much simpler of an control scheme can you have? Who else would like to see a straight conversion of Sonic to PocketPC? Am I the only Sonic fan?

I thought Sonic and Columns and stuff came with the older iPaq's in some kind of bundle. But Sega has signed up a deal to make their games for every portable platform. The Palm platform has a market nearly 3 times as large as the PocketPC market, so it's obvious that they'd port to that platform first.

Well as you can see here - http://www.palm.com/software/sega/segamobile.html - its another one of palms SD card games. That is made to act like how a game boy works. This means they prob payed sega big bucks. I hate to say this but I don't think this will be coming to ppc but I hope im wrong.

<img src="http://www.palm.com/images/software/sega/anim_sonic.gif" align="left"> I sure hope that THIS isn't coming to PocketPC, I hope they port the Genesis version. If PocketPC can handle Atari-64 Rayman then it can handle Genesis Sonic.

I think that we just might see Genesis games sooner rather than later (assuming Sega has the plans to do so). Anybody remember Sonic & Knuckles Collection PC? If I'm not mistaken, it was a specialized emulator just for Sonic 3, S+K, and S3+K. Since they have the source, why not port their own emu? Makes you wonder...

[Ahh, I know why. The game is based on DirectX. Darnit.]

Heh, I still have my copy of that lying around... loads of fun, especially when you have a second person playing as Tails and carrying you around everywhere :)

I don't get why you guys all dont just buy one of those mini-pcs, and stay away from Pocket PC. If you don't get that NO MATTER WHAT THE SOFTWARE its hard to port to pocket pc, you have serious problems.

I'm personally, as a programmer, sick of people saying "Well, the sourcecode is released, why dont you port it..."

It's rediculiously hard work to port it. You want to put in the months of work? Go ahead. I'm not stopping you.
