I have been following the DVD to Pocket PC second edition instructions. <br><br>1. the instructions refer to a patch.zip file and thunder.mism.flask file. I could not find it. I'm assuming it has been updated on the FlasKMPEG06.zip file that I downloaded.<br><br>2. I think I read that FAT32 has a 4 gig file size limit. While I'm encoding from the vob files to AVI may conversion bombs when the file hits 4 gigs. Also prior to conversion the FlasKMPEG control panel says output file will be only 1 gig. Instructions say it should say 5-7 gigs.<br><br>Comments, suggestions, Help! Thanks

Actually, FAT32 has a 2 GB file size limitation. Some video board drivers allow for files beyond 2 GB when you use their video compression (such as Pinnacle System's products.) As is I have no clue how you're getting such a large file and crashing at a specific size.

I believe you can change the setting you're talking about, the 4 GB file size limit:<br>Right click on My Computer, press Properties<br>click the Device Manager tab.<br>Then expand the System devices list<br>Double click the "Direct memory access controller." Then click the Settings tab and make sure that "Restrict DMA transfers to memory below" is not checked.<br>Or is that only talking about the RAM type of memory. My files kept cutting off at 3.99 gigs <br><br>I encode directly to MPG from Vob files now, so I have full control over the bitrate, and projected filesize. This means I can make it VCD ready, and use it as a source file for PocketPC movies.<br><br>NT and win2k doesn't have this problem, so if you run a DualOS, try ripping on a different OS.<br><br>Last modification: 999 - 05/29/01 at 20:57:56

999, what program are you using to encode directly from the VOBs? I'm getting very frustrated with TMPGENC whining about all the formats it can't convert from and I find Flask and cladDVD are even more painful to work with.

he is likely using DVD2AVI, along with TMPGENC. There is a tutorial along with links to get these programs at www.vcdhelper.com

Yep, I first rip the audio via VOB2Audio, the create a project file in DVD2AVI.<br><br>I then load that project file with Tmpgenc, and load the ripped audio file from earlier and slap the two together. This is where I encode directly to a lower bitrate MPG file, rather than having huge AVIs floating around.<br><br>DVD2AVI is used as a vob conduit for Tmpgenc. It basically sets Tmpgenc to grab the entire video stream from the separate vob files, rather than having to process each one individually then merge with mpgtools. <br><br>It's easy, and just what Tmpgenc is made for. <br><br>To make the output mpg VCD compliant, you have to then run the file through bbmpeg to set a certain mpeg parameter which Tmpgenc can't do. It's pretty quick, and ensures your mpg will be 100% VCD compliant across the boards.<br>
