Encoding Problems with VirtualDub

This is a serious topic. If you want to flame or just make jokes at my expense, then go the the "MMC Performance" thread

Seeing as the last time I tried to get help with this, it turned into a flame war, I think I'll try again.

I was instructed by Damian to get VirtualDub in order to convert videos to a divx format so that I may use them on my ppc. I did so, but during the encoding process, the application freezes and takes up all of my resources. It takes me nearly 3 minutes just to bring up the task manager to close it.

Does anyone know what may be causing this problem, or how I might be able to fix it?

How do you know if froze? Maybe it is just taking up a lot of processor time. Does Windows tell you it froze? This is coming from experience with the program, sometimes if it is really processor extensive and you start clicking on it tyring to mess with it you will crash it.

What's the original file? The problem may be a bad source...
