WMV to MPEG ??

WMV to MPEG ??

Postby Flix » Sep 4, 2001 @ 5:30pm

Howdy,
Has anybody tried to convert WMV movies to MPEG? I've tried using TmpgEnc but it takes forever(42 hours for a 108MB WMV file). I'm trying to convert some movies from FilmSpeed.com to MPEG.
Thanks
Flix

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 8000 850mhz w/ 64 MB RAM so it should be enough. I've converted other AVI files before without a problem. I'm using the following settings:
MPEG-1 320x144 24fps CBR 400kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 64kbps.

Thanks y'all,
Flix

Well, first of all, can you even FIND a program that require less than 128MB of RAM? DAMN, I didn't even know they sold computers with less than 128MB's of RAM.

64 is somewhat low, but it shouldnt be causing all of that. Make sure you restart your computer before encoding, and dont open anything else, or use your computer while it is going. By restarting you free up all of your ram, so you can focus all of it on encoding.

Or press CTRL ALT DEL and close down useless apps, like SETI@HOME, ANTI-VIRUS, POINTER, MOUSE, WINMODEM, Etc. etc.

You could do that, but besides restarting there is no way to totaly free up ram.

I have a simple 1 line VB program that frees up your RAM from old programs that don't need it any more. It's on my old HD, which isn't hooked up. But I think i got it from Tweak3D.net, in one of the Win9x or general tweak guides they have.
