A min of your time Please...all older PPC users!!!!

Postby GreyWolf Ghost » Jul 11, 2003 @ 8:16pm

Ok you know I am one who can become passionate about a cause and this one is indeed near to my heart.

I am a Windows Media user, as many here. No matter what format you listen to wma, MP3. This also covers .wmv as many like toons on there PDA's

The Windows Media Player has always been a multi platform , multi device player.

However now it is in the PPC world a single chip only app. That bloody Arm only MS white paper on PPC made it so.

I have had enough !!!!!

All Mips and older Arm devices have been shut out of WMP9 format. ( Unless Ipaq offers a ROM Upgrade) This is not fair and should be corrected. In many cases I have encoded audio and video using the Windows Media Encoder 9, to only have the Media Player 7.1 skip over it, because it can not play this new format.

I urge you, no wait I beg you to pick up the banner of equality and bug Microsoft to release a version of Windows Media Player 9 Series for all devices.

A better Media Player means fair play to all users !!!! Why should you be forced to buy a new Ipaq or Toshiba when your Older Casio or Ipaq ( or what ever the unit), is still working and is able to handle the new player.

This goes for any older PDA !!!! You have been stuck with Windows Media Player 7.1 as well for long enough.

I say spread the word to any and all Boards you can post at, build a grass roots campain to wake Microsoft up and bring us in line with the rest of the world !!!

Visit the Microsoft Wish site and add your voice to the growing number of people who only want what others are allowed to enjoy.

This is not a big deal to Microsoft !!!! It will in no way cost them penny one to open the market up. It can also serve them well to gian public support as a friendly company who cares.

Microsoft Wish :

Let them know you want 9 Series for your older PDA !!!!!!!!

Think of it this way...When WMP Series 10 comes out, how would you feel if they said you have to buy a new PC to use it????????

Yes there is a price to be paid. However 7.1 was made as a multi platform multi device app.

As I said in my first post....

How would you feel if WinMedia 10 came out tomorow and to use it you were forced to buy a new PC ??

It can't be that hard for them to toss together an Install for WMP 9 Series for older devices.

They support Mac and Solaris with 7.1 and 6.3 respectively.

And no this is not end of the world, but it would be nice to have access to better compression rates and quality.
