I downloaded windows media encoder, and tried to convert one of my films to a wmv file. The input file was an avi. It seems to encode fine but then upon playback the movie is all choppy and the sound is chopped too. Why is this happening? I simply wanna convert my file to wmv format. I really wanted to convert it to divx and I was told the encoder can do that but I dont see any option to output to ANYTHING except windows media files. The profile I was using was 500kbps for cable or something like that. any help?

If you want to encode to divx VirtualDub is probably a better choice.
I presume you have the divx codec installed on your comp :)

I have been working with windows media encoder for the last week trying to encode optimal video for my Jornada 525, with these settings i've gotten crisp sound and very smooth video.

Using only the "Single Channel ISDN" (45k)
Windows Media Audio V8 = 16kbps 22khz mono
Windows Media Mpeg-4 Video 3 (the best compression method.. tested thoroughly) 234x104, with a 10 second buffer (using the "Advance" button) make the "Frame Rate" 7 (because no matter what i set it at, it's only going to play at 7 frames per second anyway, by setting this to 7 in the first place, it makes the video very smooth!) and the "key frames Interval" at 30 (the most important part of having smooth video)
also, be sure the "slider" is all the way to the left!!
