Just wondering, i have a Jornada 525 (133mhz SH3) using TMPGenc to encode my mpegs for use on Pocket TV, just wondering if anyway had some "Optimal" settings i could use?

whats the point? jornada screens stink, especially the 525. check the other thread for this. chris posted his bitrate and sound stuff not long ago.

For one thing, i'm poor, i can't afford to just run out and buy the newest thing that can run PocketTV or PocketDivx in wonderful colors and blazing speeds!!! Sorry for being poor, but i'm sure there are other people out there with the same scenerio, therefore.. i'm asking for their help.. not the snobby @ss ipaq owner like yourself!

Paul, you don't have to be so snide.<br>Masterhaides, I'd suggest a bit rate of less than 200 and a resolution of less than 320x240. Your PPC won't be fast enough to update a full screen video. Make sure you set lots of smoothness settings, less quality better.

Well, here's the deal, i'm working with Virtual Dub and TMPGenc... so far i've gotten better frames per second by decimating the original film with VDub, and then encoding the video at full frame rate (even though it's been decimated)... however, i'm still have some problems, only getting about 9 fps @ 240x160.. any suggestions?<br>i'm running at 32k bitrate with 44khz sound @ 48k bitrate<br>right now, i don't care what the video looks like, as far as quality, i just want to run at a higher FPS!!

Well, I don't know the exact place or name of the settings, but in the encoder options within TMPGEnc there should be some kind of slider with smoothness on one and and quality on the other. Set this as low as you'd like, but I would tend to think 25% quality would be more than enough.<br>Your audio frequency should go down to atleast 22khz. There's no real point in going higher, the audio output isn't great on the PPC speaker anyway. <br>32kbps video rate? D_A_M_N that's low! I never go below 250, and that's if it's a really crappy thing anyway! Set that to 200kbps and that should be good. Your resolution is great, just don't set options like video smoothing or interlacing, basically useless for a PPC. I get around 17 FPS on average with my encoded videos on my Casio E-125 @ 180MHz. Some scenes I get a full 24FPS<br>Chris should have more answers in this area than I. He's good at encoding.

Oh, and make sure it's not skipping because of the low bitrate. Try playing it on your desktop computer to see what happens. Some of my encodings just have places with lots of action so it stutters with a low bitrate, on my desktop AND pocketpc. That could be causing some of it.

well, problem is, in "TMPGenc".. there is no slider unless i set it to "VBR_CQ"... also, the lowest setting for audio i can set it at is 33000khz, or something of that nature, and 32kbps... although if i put the audio below 48kbps, it pops and cracks....maybe there's a better mpeg encoder?? or maybe the mpeg ISO standards limit the encoding options?

Marc got in touch with you today... pedro (the other pocketdivx dev) is working on a solution for your 256-color display. The next version of pocketdivx should support it... when that happens, try a portrait video clip for the multimedia section here.
