Windows Media Encoder shrinks the video and adjusts the quality to fit on a PPC, it ends up as a wmv file at the end so it'll work with Windows Media Player. (I've converted DivX files before so I assume it works)

I use, Pocket Tv, PocketMVP, and WMP.

That plays all the files I ever need :)

Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

If I remember correctly, that sound-offsync problem had something to do with the aspect ratio of your video (not sure though).

How I encode my videos are easy; Let's say my AVI source has a resolution of 640x320, and I want to fit it on my PPC. What I do next is I take 640 (width of the original movie), and devide that by 320 (width for final result). In this case, it will result in 2. then I do 320 (height of the original movie), and device that by 2 (the result we got earlier). Then I get 160 (new height of the movie). Now I know the new resolution of the movie, so I enter that in VirtualDub and encode my movie using the simple way I use all the time (Rotate the movie when encoding, saves CPU power for the PPC; Audio = 32kbit/sec MONO; Video codec = DivX 4.11 @ 270kb/sec, sometimes lower for TV Series for example) and I never got any off-sync problems :).

Try Movie2memcard.

t let you fit the movie at varoius sizes, cropping etc. Support WMP9 and 7, divx and some other I dont know.

It might not be the best program or most fancy looking, but is easie to use and let you recompress into WMP9 real easie. Yo can easily crop movies or if you wantto crompress into smaller files suited for ppc without strecting the ration (mening keeping orignally ration apects of movies).

I fund it quict easie to recopress a 1.2 GB (120 min) xvid into a 250 mb WMP9 version wich looks ok.

I have not yet used the movies on ppc since I dotn have one(yet), but I played a bit aroud this for storing more movies on CDs (for sending to a frend in deep jungle og africa :-) )

WMP Encoder is pretty good... but DivX is still higher quality for the size I think. However... every time I use VirtualDub to optimize the video for my PPC, the sound looses sync as the movie progresses... it's very annoying and I can't figure out how to fix it. So in the end I use WMP Encoder mostly; the sound doesn't lose sync and it's a lot easier to use.

If you feel like reading through a very detailed and thorough (and convoluted ;)) tutorial on compression for the PPC, check out my End All tut at http://www.pocketmatrix.com/guides/compression/

My vote goes to PocketTV.

Does PocketDivx work any better now? It wasn't very stable the last time I tried it on my dinosaur 3635...

By the way, whats the address for the WMP Encoder site? I Googled it, but nothing looked correct... a bunch of warez sites....
