Must-Have Apps and Games? Student Planning?

I've had my Asus A620 for a couple days now, and have realized the multitude of software available. There are many programs that do similar things, so what would you all recommend as "must haves?"

In particular, I am looking for a good app for general/student planning. I'd like to have a calendar view and preferably a way to make the Today screen more... informational (in terms of displaying a summary of your plans instead of having to click Tasks like the built-in app.) I have seen "The Dog Ate It" and "WebIS Pocket Informant", would you recommend one of these? Or a different one?

Also, I know there are other topics with "what are the best games," but if you would like to add in your opinion here of your select choices, be my guest.

Also, about Handango, do they have just about every app and game there is, or should I look around some other sites too?

There are a couple problems with Handango. Number one, it is a for-profit site, meaning that everything you see there is revolving around making money. So you will see plenty of completely junk programs listed with the hopes of making the "author" a few bucks. If you are serious about games then you need to go to and look through their game and emulator directories.

Another problem with Handango is, last I heard, they don't allow the listing of any freeware products (specifically, if a product doesn't cost anything, then Handango can't make a comission off of it, so they won't list it). There are many, many very good freeware items out there (many ports, like Pocket Quake, and emulators fall into that category). So in other words, Handango would be the last place I would look, because I would see if a freeware application were available before I consulted their for-profit only listings.
