iPAQ 1945 Users - BTTrayCE is not a valid application - HELP

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone here with an iPAQ 1945 have run into this problem? I installed software to filestore and ran out of ram in the process. My ipaq froze, and after resetting it, my bluetooth no longer works, it appears the actual files in rom are corrupt.

I've searched the net looking for a solution that doesn't involve sending in my ipaq to HP, and I kinda found one.

If you check you'll find a plethora of people like me, including a fix! Unfortunately the fix is now offline :(

So what was the fix?

BTTrayCE and all of it's asociated DLL were copied from a working 1945 and overwritten with on a non working ipaq like mine.

That said, are there any kind souls here who can help? I'd need BTTrayCE.exe, BTwizardce.exe, and the related DLL files.

You need to use a third party file explorer like the one by Resco to copy the sytem files from the rom. Simply highlighting the files and compressing them to a zip file from there works perfectly.

Thanks in advance for reading :)

You cannot copy dlls or exes from the ROM, it simply won't let you. They have to be extracted through other means, I assume hacking the ROM file on the desktop. (unless you've managed to zip up your bad files yourself, in which case nevermind)

Hey Sponge, I understand what you're saying, and you are correct, however from experience, and judging from the replies in the thread I link to up above, you'll see that overwriting the files does in fact work on the surface. However, beyond that, like a hard reset for example, would revert the files back to their corrupt state.

An example of overwriting the files in rom and replacing them with your own dates back to the 3360 days and changing your Today screen. Renaming the image file it used, and they copying your own to the windows directory worked perfectly. Performing a hard reset, or just deleting the replacement file would evoke the OS to revert to the jpg back to it's original version stored in ROM.

I am essentially looking for this level of functionality, limited, yes, but working, and without having to send my ipaq back to HP yet again.

I'm willing to try said applications/dlls from any ARM PPC at this point, any takers? :)

Would flashing a ROM update work?

Believe it or not, but I've tried updating to 1.10 and back to 1.00 to no avail.

It appears that when I update to 1.10, everything works in regards to bluetooth EXCEPT connecting to other devices on an outgoing connection. Recieving an incoming connection however works like a charm.

I even went so far as to copy the "working" bttrayce.exe from the 1.10 install over the corrupt version after reverting back 1.00. It did stop me from getting the error, "bttray is not a valid application" however when I try to connect to another device, the application just idles, never taking me to the next screen where you pick what kind of connection you'd like to make. I believe this is because my btwizardce.exe is also corrupt.

I'm not sure how the softpaks work, but even flashing does not appear to copy the files over correctly. I'm not certain if the upgrade/downgrades are actual rom dumps, or just like doing an xp upgrade to 98, whereby the installer itemizes what you have, and installs only the files you don't have, or ones that need updating. I suspect the softpaks use the latter method of installs, as my corrupt files are not being overwritten with the newer ones, or backup ones, assuming they are even included in the softpaks. They very well may just contain the appropriate update files only.

So, any takers on my little experiment here of copying your bt files onto my 1945?

I reckon when I get the time, I'll head to Fry's and bring my SD card along and try to swoop the files from a demo model there. One thing I'm wondering however, is how to install resco file explorer 2003 on it via the SD. I hope I can find it's cab somehwere in my activesync folder :)

SUCCESS!!!

HAHAHA IT'S ALIVE!!!

So I paid a visit to the local Fry's Electronics, and popped my SD into a display model 1945. I copied BTTrayCE.exe and BTWizardce.exe as well as all the accompanying dll files after I installed Resco Explorer 2003.

Moved them over to my ipaq at home and it worked fine until I reset the device and it hung at the loading screen :O A hard reset later fixed things but gave me the damned BTTray isn't a valid application error again :\ After installing just the exe files, everything is working perfectly again :)

I've reset the device several times, and even upgraded the rom to 1.10 :) After the rom upgrade, I had to reinstall BTWizardCE.exe, however once again, things are back to normal.

Summary: It sucks that I had to go through this, and it sucks that I have to install this BTWizard exe file every time I hard reset, BUT IT WORKS!!! Which it sure beats sending it into HP again, and spending more $...
