The worst thing you can do to any electronic device that is wet is turn it on. You should remove the battery immediately, open the thing up, and dry it with a hairdryer. Assuming there wasn't any physical damage from the washing machine, there is a chance the device may still be usable.

I spilt coffee all over my ipaq1910 the other day. At first the screen flickered. It soft-reset itself a few times, failed to boot.

Then after a couple of hours it was fine!

My Visor Prism went through the wash three years ago. It came out perfectly fine though. Maybe it's because I let it dry out first.
