USB Joystick working on Toshiba E830!!

This guy here has written a joystick/gamepad driver for the pocket pc (actually was written for the LOOX)

The gamepad i found that works with all axis and buttons is the "Gravis gamepad pro USB" (I tried alot of gamepads) (was also told that the original Microsoft sidewinder USB works the same)

Here is the driver to download. You must follow these instructions in order for everything to work. Once done and plugged in, you will see a message saying "gamepad connected"

copy it to your E830's Windows folder and enter the following to your registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\HID\LoadClients\Defaul
t\Default\1_5\Gamepad] "DLL"="hidgamep.dll"

finally do a soft reset and attach the gamepad.
And don't forget to unplug the client calble from the PC othervise it won't work.
The driver simply maps generic y and x axis to up,down, left, right and buttons 1-8 to Numpad 1-8.

The screen looks great...

The joystick is attached to a USB cable that is available for the Toshiba e830. We have also successfully hookup a usb keyboard... hard drives (powered)... and even a usb Thumb Keyboard that someone had brought that was for a game console unit...

Cost of the cable is $25... drivers... are free and available on the net for the most part.

Check...

Thx for quoting my thread :) I am still looking for gamepads/joysticks that work with the E830. I will keep you informed when i find more.

The good thing is you can plug in "ANY" keyboard to the USB host. Currently i am using the Logitech USB keyboard for the PS2 (A little over half the length of a regular keyboard) and loving it :)

Working on a custom steel case for my keyboard, gamepad and E830. The case will have a built in WiFi antenae.

I bought mine from http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=109296 long time ago. It says for the e800 but I believe that also works for the e830.

I just ordered my cable from Toshiba. Total cost was $27. With HandheldCanada, the total was $41!!! They are charging $9.99 for shipping where Toshiba doesn't charge anything.
