Whoops. Just goes to show how much I know.

And I would say that all youneed to do is reflash the rom. Find out which rom it should be using, download it, load it onto a cf or sd card, find out the key sequence to intialize the reflash program, wait, and voila!

I can't find a ROM or bootloader for it...any suggestions?

First, why don't you try NEC's tch support, if it is still around?
Second, if that doesn't work, and strictly off the record, there are roms available on p2p's that were sold/distributed for the Tosh's, Axims, and Ipaq's. One of these is probably compatible with your unit, and as it is already dead, what do you have to lose?
Look for the rom for a ppc that matches yours the closest...e.g., OS version, processor and speed, ram..., and try that.

That does not work in the very least. A rom for a 3970 would not work on my 3955. Don't even waste your time.

There are definitely reports of roms working for alternate devices than the OEM's original intention.
To find one that matches the p300 might prove difficult if not impossible, but don't say flat out that it can't be done.

Either way, he, from what I understand, has a device that has been flashed incorrectly, is not working, and therefore has nothing to lose but time.

Please note: I only suggested the alternate rom as a last resort...the better, safer, (not to mention more legal) thing to do is try and work things out with NEC.

Oops, yea, mistaken, but only when a device came from the very same OEM (in those cases, the devices were identical, just a different shell slapped on top of them) Finding a device that has similar specs, I can almost guarantee will not work.
