Making PocketGoo work under WM2003SE

Making PocketGoo work under WM2003SE

Postby Menneisyys » May 14, 2005 @ 1:23pm

PocketGoo (see for example http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=7128 ) from Rupp Technology Corporation (see http://www.rupp.com/ - be warned, this page no longer contains any info on the program!) is an excellent image editor program that has worked great on Pocket PC devices - up until WM2003SE.

Under SE, it does the following:

- it refuses to load anything. If you try to load a custom file, the screen just becomes dark and nothing happens. In WM2003 and previous PPC versions, import worked flawlessly.

- if you save your work, the file(s) you save start being saved after you exit the program. This also makes the whole PPC become very sluggish for at least a minute after you exit the app - saving takes quite much time. In WM2003 and previous PPC versions, saving took place right after you initiated it and you also got visual feedback on it.

I've managed to find a cure to the first problem (the second can be lived with if you don't switch off / don't reset your device for some minutes after you exit PocketGoo), which is as follows.

As PocketGoo gets its example images from a subdirectory named \Images in the home directory (which is PocketGoo), you only need to copy your to-be-edited JPEG images there, and rename them to example1...4.jpg. There aren't size constraints.

Then, just load your image as if it were an example image, supplied with the app.

Unfortunately, the app can't be used in native/forced VGA mode and its output resolution is QVGA only.

PS: special thanks goes to kinged at the FirstLoox forum for telling me to check out the app.
