I'm looking at buying an X50v this week, as they're on special offer from Dell here in the UK. However, there's nothing mentioned about the free upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 that American users are offered with the purchase.

Do you think it will even be available in the UK - no one on the phone at Dell can give me a straight answer.

actually, dell.com has been offering a free wm5 upgrade cd with their x50v for several months.

x50v from dell.com
http://www1.us.dell.com/content/product ... l=en&s=dhs

from dell.ca, the wm5 free upgrade is displayed less prominently. as a matter of fact, i only just discovered it, as its an unobtrusive line shown when u click to customize the x50v

Unfortunately, it's not shown at all on the UK site.

There actually wasn't much in it when the x50v came out. The US customers were allowed to order *far* before UK, about 8 weeks before it shipped. US was split two shipping points one got a week before UK one a week after. It was actually the call center UK(India) selling them before the Dell UK website referenced them. Although you could track the order on the website took mine four days from order to doormat.

The X50v has come down 70 quid since I bought mine, I was second or third in UK I think. The X51v is still a paper work based rumor AFAIK "spec"ulation. And I presume would come in high priced. You might want to call the customer center they are a bit more up to date.

Just got off a long and tortuous phone call with the Delhi based tech support. Basically, they promised me that the upgrade CD will be posted to me free of charge even if it's not listed on their website.

It's currently available for 247 pounds with free shipping. Still painfully above what US citizens have to pay, but a pretty good deal for the UK.

I've no idea what the X51v will retail at, but probably far higher than what I can afford! I do need an upgrade though, as my 1910 just doesn't cut it any more.
