Sry to tell you, but your unit got a serious problem. The wifi/blutooth light is also an indicator for "unknow state" of the unit.
Lot of ppl that have had problem with theyr A716 reported this symptom. I'm afraid your rom is damaged or something like that, so the only solution is to send your unit back to ASUS. Even if your ppc isn't under waranty, it shouldn't cost you too much.

EDIT: I'm asuming you already tried to hard reset your device, haven't you?

I had that happen once while testing my software. I accessed memory outside the display buffer and that locked it up good (same symptom with the WiFi light on). I hard reset it by removing the main battery and flipping the backup switch and that did it.
