"MIPS do have faster integrated CPUs but take more power to work at the same speed than SA1110.

However, MIPS CPUs have better internal architecture. I believe a MIPS machine running at 180MHZ will wipe out ARM running at 203MHZ.

On the other hand, Casio had a wonderful motherboard on E10x machines but they changed it by the new one on EM500/E125 wich is far weaker (the Kujira chipset).

All in all, I think a better machine is the one that achieves a better usability. Up to now I think Casio machines are in front on this field.

Inaki."

Sorry, I just thought was pretty interesting. :)

LOL!

More Usable for what?

Playing JfriggenFive and other Jimmygames?

Egads... I guess Inaki doesn't go wireless, or do any tasks that only benifit from a faster cpu, like text corrections on 4 meg PDF files.

Oh well, I guess it *is* more Usable for his needs, as my ipaq is more usable to fit my needs.

Ah! Found out some interesting info on MIPS, StrongARM, and SH-3. (The SA1110 that's mentioned by Inaki is the StrongARM, if anyone was wondering.)

Turns out that SH-3 and StrongARM are 32-bit processors which is great since WindowsCE is 32-bit. The MIPS R4000 used in the Cassiopeia line is 64-bit. That means it has to emulate a 32-bit processor, kind of like running Windows 9x on a Pentium IV. The emulation results in a processing power penalty.

Other reasons the StronARM whoops MIPS. It has a built-in LCD controller. It also supports optional graphics accelerators, but I think that's for VGA monitors only. (It says high-res LCD screen as an output possiblity. I don't think they meant 240x320.)Last modification: SonicSilicon - 04/05/01 at 21:16:26
