I recently bought a 448MB storage card off of ebay for only $185 used. That is only $0.41 a meg (I have read anything under a dollar per meg is a good deal). So I thought I would just pass this on to all of you with PC Card enabled PocketPC's

Well, I guess that I'm glad I didn't spend $1000 dollars on my 1GB Microdrive. In fact the retail is like $.50 a meg, but you can get them for about $350 now.....

I payed $100.00 for my 64Mb MMC card. That's $0.64 per meg, which is pretty good, because the 64Mb MMC card usually costs between $120-$180.

has 128 mB Kingston CF cards for $126 (just under a $1/mB.) Best deal I've ever seen. In fact, I bought one earlier and am so satisfied with it I'm planning on buying two more at that price (and selling the "old" one to my dad.)

I thought I would mention that even though the MicroDrive may be like 30 cents a meg, if you pay a little more and get a flashcard instead there is a big trade off. While you get more megs for your money with the Microdrive, you get alot more battery life with the FlashCards. Personaly I prefer the extra battery life.

FYI, I would have to say that MMC cards are an exception to the under a buck per meg rule because they are new technology.

Sony Memory Sticks ain't cheap either. But then again, the sole purpose of their proprietary life is to make Sony money.

Dan East

I brought a 1 gig Microdrive 3 months ago. I was wondering if a CompactFlash is faster than a 1 gig MicroDrive. I love my 1 gig Microdrive ,but there is such a delay when loading programs.

That's the spin up time. If you don't use the drive for a couple of minutes it will spin down, thus it has to get back up and going when it is accessed again. That delay should be similar for any harddrive, even those in desktop machines and laptops.

Dan East

The flashcard memory is faster for the reasons Dan just mentioned above, My advice...If you have the money buy a big flashcard, the batteries will last much longer than on your MicroDrive.

You haven't been looking much at flash cards then, Chuck. Go to any of the manufacturers sites and you'll easily find 256 mB cards. I've seen them up to 2 gB, but you could buy a pair of awesome laptops for the price it fetches. Perhaps you meant CompactFlash. The largest I've seen for CF is .

128 mB seems to be the point where buying a larger CF memory card decreases the price per mB. It starts going back up at 160.

Flashcards are like buying RAM for your computer. They could make 1GB ones, but the price would be so outrageous that no one would buy it, thus they don't make it yet.
