As some of you know, I spent ages trying to get an Ipaq in the past, I finailly got one and I've encounted problems with it ever since, not only that in recent postings ive told ya all about it being dropped and seriously damaged.

Well, here is the news. People make sure you contact and learn everything about your rights with your PDA. Compaq will NOT help you out at all with your PDA. So far all I';ve been told is that "no parts on an Ipaq device is replacible". Not even the screen can be replaced. Which is the main part i need fixed.

Also from amny studies people have seen how weak an Ipaq is. Its case easily shatters, and the glass is incredibly easy to crack. I've dropped babys that were stonger (metaphore)

Basically people, I'm going to be hunting and chasing up every single Compaq emplyee that I can, and trying to get this situation fixed, but I doubt its gonna happen.

In my finial saying, dont bother buying Ipaq devices, they are weak, easily ruined, and not worth the money. I admit Ipaq is great for power, but unless ya gonna have a friggen air bag around it, i would never ever pick one up again.

Wait until PDAs, especially ipaq are built stonger and take a small fall. The ipaq was a waste of $1200 (austrlian) dollars for me, and I dont think i will ever buy a Compaq device again becuase of their shitty customer support.

In addition, many companies in australia are starting to stop stocking Compaq devices becuase of the lack of customer support. Compaq doesnt give out many warrenties any more.

Make sure your PDA can take a fall before ya buy one, becuase, you will prolly drop it at some time.

hmmm... sounds like a big problem.. send it up to me, i'm sure canada compaq support would repair it for you :). Us canadians are so nice :) eh?

Seriously though - i bet that you would have better luck if you were to send it to compaq canada or compaq united states... but i don't know if they would repair it for you (being out of country and all)...

Whatever. I'll call them up and use my webmaster skillz to try and arrange a fix for you.

That's why I like my Casio! It's Japanese so it's better quality than the American Compaq. Once in the library at school, I had it on a table, and it fell off right when someone was jumping over a chair and literally drop kicked it about 30 feet. I went insane saying "if this thing's broken I'll have your head!!". Well, NO damage was done to it at all. Not even a scratch. All you suckers with your low quality iPAQs, no offense, but there's just too many problems with them. I have a Compaq Pesario desktop, and the technical support for it is in Haiti, and they can't do a thing (I called them once, the person only spoke Spanish and Portuguese). I've heard the screen on the EM-500 is replacable. I'd like to know how much it costs (I take it you can only get it from Casio). Mine's full of scratches. Thanks.

The erplacement for a Cassiopeia screen is a hefty $250 U.S. That's more than half the price of the unit (it goes for about $400 here.) Personally I say to save the money towards a Talisker unit (whever they ever come out) if you have the difference.

Warren,

My iPAQ is just fine, believe me, I treat mine like Garbage. (Ask Jaybot, he's seen how I take care of my electronics--I don't)

Anyhow, my iPAQ is still in one piece, stylus stays put, buttons all work, no real dust problems, *and* my screen is as perfect as the day I got it. Oh yea, I don't use a screen protector either ;) My Casios all scratched really easily, infact, you can still see the outline of a Fish I drew in PocketArtist on my E100.

Like my car, this iPAQ is built for SPEED...

What Im looking forward to see is the Amigo in action, did it have titanium casing, or was that something else?

What about the Casio EG-800? You can drive a tank over that thing and it won't break. I'd guess you'd want that if it's gonna cost $1,100.00USD!

Warren:

The only guy I know with an EG has gone through 3, and he treats it like gold. The defects made the device more of a harm to itself than anything else.

That doesn't say much for a product who's sole purpose was to handle the elements while in a semi-hazardous workplace.

My iPAQ was built for Desk-Jockeys, yet I treat mine like a pair of old shoes and I'm still on my first one. :)
I used to sell these things (mostly to companies). Some of the "add-ons" that I would always suggest were CF memory cards and a case of some sort (Rhinoskin, etc). The machine is nice but if you ever really looked at the warranty info, you'd realize that you're SOL if something happens to it. IF the mfg decides they will fix it, you aren't even guaranteed to get the same unit back. They can send any resonable replacement device.

My original "sales pitch" stilll stands... get a CF memory card to back-up data and a case to help protect the darn thing.
