You know, this is starting to sound more and more like the processor in the Dreamcast.
But you're right about all the specs. I had never heard a name for it though.

Tom Gigear,

Where did you read that the next version of the Pocket PC (Merlin) is going to be using Windows CE 4.0 (Talisker)? This on CNET says that Merlin will be based on CE 3.0. It also says that it is not known when CE 4.0 will start showing up in Pocket PCs.

Whoops, you're right. I was wrong (I hate it when that happens! :( )

I read that Talisker is the next CE version (4.0)due out this summer and that Merlin is the next pocket PC OS version due out in the fall and I guess I was reading to fast and somehow put together that the next Pocket PC OS would be based on the next CE OS that would already be out. (makes sense doesn't it?)

Now that I take a closer look I see that Although Talisker should be out before Merlin, Merlin will still be based on CE3.0.

Sorry, I didn't mean to post bad info. D@#n, D@#n, D@#n!! I will be more carefull in the future what I post to the whole world. Now I have to fish this stupid foot out of my mouth.

(Maybe I should go edit my post so that anyone else that reads it doesn't think its true.)

Tom

Let me clear this up. Intel is going to release a new 412MHz processor that will be used in the Compaq iPaq and several other Pocket PC devices, it is the same StrongARM processor only it has a higher clock speed. Merlin is the code name of the new version of Pocket PC that only the Compaq iPaq will be able to upgrade to because of its use of FlashROM :). All new Pocket PC devices will use this O/S. Another note, Palm has ditched the use of Motorola's Dragonball processor and has joined the band wagon and their next PDA will use the same processors seen in Pocket PC devices. Final note, the Intel StrongARM processor (used in Pocket PC devices) is going to be running at speeds of 1GHz within a couple years :)

The press release said that the new StrongArm processor would have a PowerVR graphics co-processor built in, with FSAA and many other features.

And also, Casio is moving to the StrongARM Intel processor as well, I hear...
