ok would using 802.11 card with router work? I would just use a linksys card, but that one I linked to above has the lowest power requirements, and that would be a nice feature for a PocketPC card.
802.11 itself is just a standard......

802.11b (which matt is talking about) is a Local Area Wireless Network.....

802.11a which is coming out soon is the same, except it connects at 54mbps instead of the 11mbps that 802.11b does.

pretty much, 802.11 is a wireless network :)

hmmm i was readin that article that digby posted awhile back.... you can use an antenna to boost the signal up to 14 kilometers? Thats like 9 miles. Imagine using VNC to connect to your computer at that speed and doing, well whatever you want on your PPC from 9 miles away.

So how much cost am i looking at and what all do I need exactly to get this puppy set up? Now that they have CF 802.11b I think its feasible to do it on my Casio.

Ahhh, the trials and tribulations of money...

To get the things that you want to spend time on you need money. To get money you need a job. Once you have money from a job you no longer have time for the things you want to spend your time on. So once you have a job, theres no point in it. But if you don't have a job you have nothing to spend your time on. ARGH!

that like point-to-point though, it wasn't like roaming...... you'd have to set it up to broadcast at a small target.....and you'd be moving around town, not staying in one spot...

yeah, I was going to say that, but I wasnt sure if we were talking about the same article. Of course it is possible per say, its quite expensive. And you need a really tall tower, like a radio tower will work. Thats what the people in my town did to launch their 802.11 high speed wireless. They put three 120 degree transmitters on a tower side by side so they go 360 degree's.

Still a dang cool idea nonetheless. I dont remember the link, it was in te other 802.11 thread. That guy had to have a pretty damn good point to point over 10 kilometers........
