I was sitting here at work(i work inalocal computer store as a vb programmer) And i took a look up at the wall and saw a wireless InfraRed Gamepad. It made me think maybe that would rock if i finished the booster for the Infrared port and there was a way to way to write a driver for that pad. Also this may be cool to carry over to infrared keyboards and mice, considering there cheaper than a stoaway and wireless.

but arent ppc IR ports at the top of the device meaning you'd have to play the game upside down? also, the whole point of an IR pad is so you can sit away from the screen and so on...

anyways, why does a store need a vb programmer?

Well, you could make a small add on for the top of your device with a mirror to reflect all the IR. It would work..

Hey i think it wont matter when the booster is on, thats why i said that. Like i have really strong remotes that u can hold backwards and change the channels on the cable box. The extender said it had a 50 meter catchment area too. As for using infrared i find it useful becuase i can get an infrared gamepad quite ez, as compared to the stinger. And it would be nice to have it wireless so you can set the ppc on your lap and play quake or somthing and not have to worry about carring around a cord and paying extra money to buy the serial cord for an ipaq.

ah, i thoguht they needed exact line of sight rather than the aim-anywhere effect of most tv remotes.

hmmm you know i think the ipaq with the booster would work but maybe the pad does need exact line of site. O well i already bought it, if it needs line of sight ill just use it as a remote for my ipaq instead of a gamepad

Ok i have written a program to monitor what the pad sends to the ipaq, it just seams to be a whole bunch of randomw ascii. Does this mean that the gamepad uses Consumer standerd irda?

Probably. There is Consumer IR, and irDa, but not consumer irDa.

Most likely they just use some proprietary system, which would be cheapest to manufacture.

Dan East

Does that make impossible to get working? I really dont where to start, i was thinking like montering waves or somthing instead of the data on the comm port. Thanks for clearing up that ir irda thing, now i wont look like a jackass anymore.
