I am the proud new owner of an Ipaq 3850 (Hooray!) I've ditched the manky old palm (I palmed (pun intended) it off to a sucker workmate)

It's fantastic - but I dont need to tell you all that!!

I have a Viking 64mb MMC card, and i've filled it with mp3's (192kbit). When I play them with WMP 8 it plays them mostly ok but theres clicks and jumps - a few times it even jumped to the next track about halfway through.

I know that MMC cards are slower than SD cards, but surly they cant be so slow as to not manage 192kbit/s ????

I've made sure that no other progs are running at the time. I've not been doing anything while its playing an mp3 (apart from admiring it) so whats the problem ?

Is there a speed test program to see how fast these things transfer ?
Is there a way of increaing the buffer on WMP8 ?
Should I use a different mp3 player (and if so, what) ?

Thanksyou!!!
I don't know if it's your case, but the sound in PPC2002 is buggy. That's one of the reasons Compaq is delaying for so long their PPC2002 CD. What version are you running? 2.14?

In the asset viewer, under Version it says
Product Revision Level 2.0
Rom Date: 09/28/01
Rom Revision 1.14.00 ENG
OS Version Windows CE 3.0

Is this the latest version? a search of compaq's support area revealed nothing newer...
You have the newest version. 2.14 is only available at warez sites, and it's buggy too. This could be your problem, and if it's the case, you'll have to wait for Compaq to launch the CD with the patch.
When, you ask me? Your guess is as good as mine (last I heard it should be around December 10).

Might be worth noting that Viking cards are notoriously buggy...

Continuing this saga....

I've played around with different audio types and qualities. I've found that an 80kbit wma runs much better than any quality mp3 (who'd of though microsoft would bias its own software to play its own format better than its closest, more popular rival).

Less skips and random stopping but its still not 100%

Next is to try and get some wmas in to the oh so precious ipaq main ram.
Well, putting stuff in ram didnt help.

I have tried a different player (iplay) and it now plays perfectly from both the MMC card and ram.

I think theres only one conclusion I can draw from this experience:

WMP 8 on the ipaq is crap
