They seem so perfect for memory on the pocket pc is there anything bad about them? Do they drain the batterys or something?

Running the backlight runs the battery down, so does turning the device on. So the question really is by how much does it drain the battery? In all honesty not all that much. CF is your best when planning to buy additional storage for your PPC. Followed shortly by MMC/SD cards. SD is more expnsive currently, but eventually that will change.
To answer your question about the problems with CF, some cards do affect performance greater than others. There is an ongoing debate as to whether Mr. Flash brand CF has lower power efficiency. From most of the reports that I have read it does in fact reduce the battery length. This might also be true of other brands of generic CF, but there are not tests to my knowledge proving this. So far Viking, SanDisk and Kingston have been given good reviews in terms of batery longevity and speed (read/write).
Hope this helps.
