As most of you know, I use PayPal to collect payments for DEXplor sales. I use it because it only charges me a 5% fee for each purchase, and I have a great deal of control over the purchasing process (collecting and validating Product IDs, etc). I need to pursue other online sales avenues to provide an alternative for those that do not want to use PayPal. DEXplor is currently listed on Pocket Gear, but I'm going to pull it soon for several reasons. I do not direct any traffic to Pocket Gear from the DEXplor website.
What I'm considering doing is charging a different cost for DEXplor depending on how it is purchased. If purchased through PayPal, it will still cost $13.95. However, if other payment options are used (like Handago, which would charge me 4 times more than PayPal), then I will charge more ($1-$2 additional). On the purchase screen at dex-plor.com you would see two choices for purchasing, each with a different dollar amount.
What would be your opinion when confronted with paying different amounts for a product depending on how you purchased it?
Does anyone know if the huge Handago legal agreement allows for that (selling your software for less elsewhere)?
Jacco mentioned something about Handago requiring all "demo" downloads to be directed to their site. So does that mean I would not be allowed to let people download DEXplor from my website? If so that is totally unacceptable.
