what about Compaq/HP

Hopefully before the LOOX goes on sale the Compaq/HP shakedown will have resulted in the iPaq going forward & the Jornada being retired & then HP can get on with their next PocketPC. I have the cash for only 1 additional PocketPC this year :(

I'm also very interested in upgradeability to the next CE version. LOOX will have PocketPC 2002 but future devices will sport the new CE ( what's it called? CE-Net )

( The announced LOOX Euro's price inc VAT is similar to existing machines but I can't remember it exactly )

Ok so will these new xscale processors allow all ARM based programs to run on 'em? Or will they need to be re-done.

Xscale is just an extension to the ARM architecture, so all existing ARM apps should run on the devices. Xscale does have additional instructions, but they probably won't be used much by developers at first, until the devices are a bit more widespread.

Jornada 525 pros/cons

HP Jornada 525 pros and cons.

Pros :D
1.) Good battery life.
2.) Internal CF slot.
3.) Small size.
4.) Not expensive.

Cons
1.) SH3 processor when everyone else had ARM.
2.) Cover designed incorrectly. Sharp point is touching screen when it is closed.
3.) Bad screen: 8-bit color.
4.) Tiny amount of internal memory: 16MB.
5.) Only runs about 1/4 of the PocketPC programs out there.
6.) No multiple button press except for scroll wheel/hotkey combination (2 separate panels, 1 input from each).

And the list goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and. Ok, i'll stop now, but you get the point, right?

The Jornada 548 had 32MB of internal memory and a 12-bit screen, not much better, but at least it can run 1/3 of the PocketPC programs out there, more than the 525.
