Need help with Cell Carrier Choice

Okay folks. Here's the deal. My cellular contract has run out with US Cellular. They do not offer any data services (besides messaging) in my area. I'm looking for a new carrier, and have heard various discussions about all the different types of services out there. I live in a rural area (southwest Virginia, near Wytheville), so whatever I go with has to have prolific coverage.
So, can you guys throw out some suggestions for carriers that offer data capability compatible with my iPaq?
Next question, I need suggestions for a reasonable phone to use with my iPaq. By reasonable I mean < $150 (after discounts are applied).
Thanks!

hey dan, I know it's a bit personal but could you supply us with a zip code? That would help me with my suggestions because I would need to know what services are in your area before I can make a suggestion..

No problem. 24382 is Wytheville, which is 8 miles from here. I already checked Sprint PCS. They cover the interstates (77 & 81) right next to us, but the coverage is not good enough for this area.

so is att. their partner in the area suncom ()looks to have the same range as the others. They might offer data services, but you'll be hard pressed to get any of their 2.5G network.
No verizon either.
You must live in a really rural area. How many acres do you own?
dammit...Earthlink is out

Good point, Nokia are also very popular, just like StarTACs. You should check out an LG phone if you are looking for small with lots of features.
