let me guess.... you using the ipaq 3600 series? The upgrade to ppc2002 does not include the windows media player cos the rom on the 3600 series is only 16mb unlike the newer ppc2002 devices which comes with 32mb rom.

Actually, because Compaq couldn't source 16MB Flash for quite a while, some of the 3630s reportedly have 32MB Flash ROMs. (Mine doesn't

).

I'm running a 3650 with 32Mb of RAM, and I was able to install WMP that was included on the Compaq upgrade CD. I have now installed the Service Pack(from the Compaq/HP) site, and it does not include WMP, nor will it allow me use the one on the previous PPC2002 upgrade CD.

ok go to control panel on your PC and delete any references to windows media player for pocket pc.
Now reinstall Wmp from your install cd
Now get the 8.5 update and install it and all is well again

Speaking of service packs, I'm having tons of problems with the backlight on my 3850 not turning on most of the time. I believe this is a known issue - are there any fixes or service packs to sort it out?
Cheers.
