VirtualDub being evil.

Yo all. I am trying to encode the Matrix, that my friend encoded for me, but when I open it up in VirtualDub, all it sees is a black screen. What does this mean? Could I possibly not have the right codecs? Do I need to reinstall? How do I get it so VirtualDub can play and encode the movie?
