> Best Device for Divx Playback?

Hey yall,
Looking to play Divx movies at 320x176, 24fps, 300kbit, mono audio. I really want to get a PocketPC that can handle 24fps (movie dvds) or even 30fps (tv dvd stuff 240x240), without dropping frames.
I'm thinking of the Dell Axim X5 (400mhz), Viewsonic v35 and iPaq 3955. The Dell is without question jam-packed with value and features, the cheap CF expansion is pretty huge. But on the downside, it has a crap D-pad and is bulky. Oh and actually I put in an order last night for an Axim, it's not slated to ship till Feb 27th, so I have time to cancel if I get cold feet.
I'm strongly considering either the Viewsonic or the iPaq after having demoing them in-store today. They are both really sleek and stylish, and the screens on both are really fantastic. Any Divx freaks out there with the Viewsonic v35? The Viewsonic also has a great D-Pad and button layout, which would be great for games.

Forget about any of those. If you want superior video playback, it's either the Zayo, or preferablly the e740. None of those devices, maybe not even the Zayo can handle the specs you want.

I've played DivX movies completely smoothly with better specs than that on my iPaq H3955, I don't know WHAT you're talking about sponge.
But I'd suggest the Toshiba e740, as well. It has an ATI Imageon, a dedicated MPEG decoder chip, onboard. It can playback movies with bitrates of 800kb or greater.

I figure the 400mhz Axim and the high-end iPaqs can handle the specs I posted above. Found this link, towards the bottom, reviews gives results of divx playback on 4-5 high-end pocketpcs, though not enough specs of the video clips are given.
800kbit, I'd need a 512mb cf card for a single movie! Perfectly happy with 250-400kbit. Still curious about the Viewsonic, anybody?

Hey moose, the iPaq 3955 looks quite nice. The price is decent at $450. What resolution, bitrate, fps do you optimize your Divx movies to? Wished it had a CF slot at that price...

I always use 320x240, and around 250kbps, 200kbps if I don't have much room on my SD card.
FYI, the Matrix Reloaded trailer is the one that's available on this website in the Multimedia section.

Do you encode at 24fps or 30fps(TV)?
What about the audio?
Do you think it can handle 300-400kbit/s (video)?

My Razor Zayo plays full speed 300 kbits video (30 fps) pretty easily. The e740 is even faster for video.

I was never able to play any music videos (300-400kbit, 128kbit audio) without dropping frames. Maybe it's been a while since I tried.

Yeah, sponge, it has. PocketMVP .8P kicks butt, but it's even better for us e740 users! We can do all sorts of neat things like "size to viewport" or... something else, I forgot

. But really, I love PocketMVP. It's awesome. VP3 is better than DIVX (and PocketMVP supports both, of course), I think. You guys should try it out! But whatever...

WHat is VP3? Also, I am having a problem with my Black Hawk down playig on my Axim. Snatch, the Matrix, and Monty Python work fine, but I cant get Black Hawk Down to work. Whenever I try to play it, the screen goes green and I just get the audio. also, i have to soft reset to stop it. I watch it on my PC and it works fine, the file i encoded with virtual dub. 200kbs, Decimated by 2, mono mpeg layer 3 audio, divx 5 encoding.

Toshiba e740, any day. The ATI imigeon is taken advantage off in the new version of Pocket DIVX, making for super smooth playback.

You spell it "imigeon" when it's been said correctly in nearly every post prior to yours? Pfft.
