Honest opinions sought

As some of you may be aware, my company will be releasing a game called Invasion: Trivia next month.

I'm writing this because today we had a post put up on PocketGamer () that finally, after some hype and build-up, spilled the beans about the game, giving just about every detail about it away.

We are proud of the result of all our hard work, but it has been disheartening to see some of the feedback the post has gotten and the low interest rating it has received thus far.

We fully understand that we're not exactly breaking new ground with a trivia game, but we thought the offbeat, humorous nature of the game would be a big selling point. That doesn't seem to be the case.

Understanding of course that it's tough to make any real judgements about something that isn't released yet, given the information we've made available about the game (), I'm curious what the gut reaction of the PocketMatrix readership is.

Did we waste our time doing this? Did we bank on the comedy facet of the game too much? Does it look "kinda crappy", as one person wrote on PocketGamer? Did we over-hype it all this time?

Answers to these questions might help us make different decisions in the future on what kinds of projects we pursue and how we go about it, so any feedback, positive or negative, could be helpful. Just don't be cruel, which I think some people have been in other posts. That's not cool, even if you think the product is going to suck big-time.

Thanks in advance!

Trivia games are a dime a dozen, and even if you add humour or anything, when it comes down to it, it's still a trivia game. I have to admit I was disappointed too, and while I'm not at all trying to insult your hard work, it will probably be a game that won't get much of a look from me.

Like randall said, the cartoon short was pretty funny, and would love to see something more with the characters.

It looks high quality to me. People that usually say things like "kinda crappy" aren't exactly the most intelligent people to begin with, and most probably don't reside in your target market. I wouldn't worry about them.

Just that picture of the alien in their spaceship monitoring Earth makes me want to chuckle. I'm sure it's a very humorous game. I wouldn't put all of my chocolate easter eggs in the humor basket, but it's always a nice add on to the game. It won't make a game, but it will make a steady game rock solid.

Hype is nearly always bad. Some of my favorite games barely even got a mention in the media. I would try to encourage interest, while at the same time refraining from irrational hype. There's a difference between interest and hype and a fan and a stalker. Same correlation. One's good, one's bad.

I think you've got a pretty good trivia game on your hands. I really wouldn't be bothered by what one of the three or so people on a small forum says about your game.

The game looks cool, because i enjoy trivia games. My family goes on long trips, and we get really bored, so we have a little trivial pursuit game, but we know all the answers now. If you released more trivia consistently after it was released, and advertised that you were going to do this, I think many people would be interested. I would.

Good point... Yes, we do plan on releasing trivia packs after release on a fairly regular basis, but we're also including an editor to create your own trivia packs, so we're hoping others will do so as well. It's actually pretty tough coming up with 1,000 questions as we've done, especially if you don't want to just copy them directly off Trivial Pursuit cards, which we've avoided doing for the most part. A future version might also have the option of syncing with our web site to download new questions as I think someone suggested, that just won't make it into the first release though.
