Picture one: Schroogie before the nuke

(I don't care whether it is Schroogie or Schnoogie)
Picture two: Schroogie after the Nooginz "light up the planet with neon lights" (otherwise known as a nuke)

HA! cool. You should make the first into a playable level.

Would the foreground be the ship, and the rest be the background?

Also, should I try to make it look more cartoony?

Yea, turn it into a level! Flames should be part of the background too.

I'd move the planets down a little and have them as a kind of base of the level, instead of way up high. They could be a foreground also and then not block jumping and stuff...

Or just go with your plan. It's better.

Shame there's no death colour for the maps, so being blasted into space will actually hurt, like that final UT map.

Has anyone noticed that this "fan art" has absolutely nothing to do with Snails except that he tacked on the word "Schroogie", which is just a misspelled version of the planet that Snails takes place on? :)

Well, with your hypocritical thinking, its like saying that an earlier fan art piece had nothing to do with Snails, except it replicated a Snail...

His fan art was what he envisioned as the plot scenes in the missions. It may not stay true to the original look or how others would see it, but he is showing passion for a game DAMNIT! :) I wouldn't have imagined the letters of the planet stamped through the core of the planet though. Kudos anyway! Looks cool.

I'm not saying I don't like it, it's actually quite good, I'm just saying that it's stretching the limits of "fan art".

I don't recall Schnoogie ever being blown up by a nuke...
