PNG = portable network graphics. it's another open format thats an alternative to gifs (primary format of the burn all gifs campaign) All of the new browsers support it, may cause trouble with older ones.
BTW, you should see about making a mobile optimized version of the manual. Basically the same thing, but iwth linked pictures (if any) and rotated/shrunk to fit in window
