Sound in Mips Demo doesn't work on my E-115G

Sound in Mips Demo doesn't work on my E-115G

Postby Avenger » Jan 25, 2002 @ 3:27pm

well, the subject says it all... Does it work in the full version?
I've turned on all Sound settings in Windows CE, but I can't hear any in the game...
A friend of mine has a EM-500G, and sound works perfectly on his device...

Did you try turning on the sound on the game options? It may be off by default.. dunno.

e115

well I haven't loaded the demo on to my E115 (overclocked to 168mhz) and the "beta" snails runs like very quickly (except during big explosions and such) but ONLY if I turn off sound and music. I don't know if that has anything to do with it...the sound works, its just SLOW.

Is this fixed in the new version?

Johann: yes, the new version has improved considerably in performance, but having sound and music can slow down the game's frame rate by ~15%.
Since the new version uses a much faster and optimized memory handling, this slowdown is probably reduced as well.
I haven't had time to get exact numbers yet, but the game runs much smoother on HP 525 than it used to - and that's the slowest ever PocketPC.

Well, the sound is turned one every where on the device (and in the game). I also have about 10 MB free program memory. But it doesn't work...
I've had a look in the folder where I installed the Snails Demo and it has no sound files (I think there was a pre-beta demo that had all the sound files separated).
The sound still doesn't work...

Maybe your E115G came with the optional non-working sound with snails support. ;)

I've tried it on my E115 and it seems to work fine with the sound.

Try removing it through the Remove Programs in the control panel. then re-install the latest demo through active sync into the main memory. This should clean out any snails residue (yucky, slimy stuff) left on your PPC and replace it with a fresh one.

If that still doesn't work, maybe your E-115G really doesn't support sound in Snails. :P

:( :(
It doesn't work, even after reinstalling again and again... Probably it's a problem with my device, but today I'm not interested in reseting the whole device to it's factory settings.
The game is fun, even without sound... and probably one day it will work...

I have the same problem. I know that Larry "Bitbank" Banks did an identification check of the ppc on which a program of him was working. The german E-115G has a different machine-id than the english E-115. Larry disabled a certain feature in his program because he did not correctly recognize the machine it was running on. I was able to supply him with the correct machine id and the program after a little mod then worked fine. I don't know if snails is checking the ppc properties before running. If yes, perharps this is the problem.

well, I've recieved your e-mail.
I loaded the files on to the PPC, My Documents Folder. I've also copied a WAV-File from the Windows directory to My Documents and tried it with the player you sent me. Nothing happens. I only get a Channels 001 - CPU 0.00%

The sound is turned on in the system and I hear sound, until I start the player. Then I even can't hear the sound when I tap the Windows-Symbol. The sound is turned off in the whole system until I quit the player...

I hope this help you to find the problem...
