how do u edit teams.dat?

The registry is an area of your operating system in which variables can be read and stored in binary, ascii, or hexidecimal format. This area of the computer is not readily accessible without a special program. Windows for the desktop comes with "regedit," but the PocketPC does not have such a native program. You must use a third party application such as to edit the registry on your PocketPC. But be warned, settings you change in the registry take immediate and sometimes drastic and fatal effects. It's not like editting a Word document, the keys and variables within the registry are all VITAL to the function of your device. Do not wildly change anything in there unless you know exactly what it will do and why it will do it.
However, you obviously do not know enough about computers to handle the circumstances of messing with the registry. I HIGHLY suggest that you refrain from all editting of vital data, including the Snail's dat files for the time being.

eike, oyu meant goo in the processor coming up with silly ideas? ;-)
the registry is a central database of the OS containing lots of system and application specific settings. Run regedit.exe on your desktop computer and look around. Be careful, you can mess things up easily :-)

Don't worry too much about the registry.

You can use like to "associate" .dat files with your Pocket PC text editor. It's free, easy, and safer since you don't have to mess with your registry.

Don't worry about messing up the dat files. You probably won't. If I were you, I would make a backup copy of the dat file and put it somewhere else. Then, if you mess-up and you can't figure out what you did wrong, you can always delete (or move) your modified dat file and copy over your backup dat file and make sure that it is named the right thing and that it is in the right folder. Or, you could just re-install snails.

I tried to make these instructions pretty easy to follow. The dat files themselves are easy to modify correctly and explain themselves. A pre-teen could understand them! Modifying them is pre-teen's play. Ummm... That's all that I can think of...

OT: 15 here. :D

Speaking of registry editing and the like, at some point will there be a standard for creating "packs" of missions and weapons (in case any 3rd party people want to make them)?

The tilde in my last post is supposed to have been assumed, Moose, as you will see by the little message in my last post. Just so you don't misunderstand me...

As has been previously explained, open them up in a text editor. The scripts are very logical and should be self-explanatory.
